So if you know me, or have been following this blog, you know that I have been on the hunt to find the perfect green nail polish, and I think that I just found it. I scored when buying this nail polish. I was scrolling through Amazon when I found this deep green polish, it’s Off Tropic by Essie nail polish, I knew that I was going to get it, but then I procrastinated.
That same weekend, I went to Marshall’s and while browsing I found the nail polish, for only $3.99, how awesome was that?! Don’t sleep on stores like Marshall’s and TJ Maxx, you never know what you might find.
While you’re using this nail polish, you might think that this color is opaque with one coat, but I found that if you use one coat, your mani will end up steaky. For this nail polish, it’s best to use 2 coats. After I let the nails dry, I used my Orly top coat and was on my way.
This nail polish is amazing, it’s the perfect green for the fall and you can add a red nail as an accent for the upcoming holiday season. My only gripe with this nail polish (I think, could also be the topcoat I am using) is that it started to chip after a couple of days. My manicure did not last a week.
QUESTION TIME: WHAT TYPE OF TOP COAT DO YOU USE?
Over the past couple of months, I have been obsessed with yellow nails. What’s not to like? They brighten your outfit and they can give you that boost that you need. One of the things that I did not realize going into shopping for yellow nail polishes was how hard it was to find a cute yellow with a great formula. Today I am comparing two yellows: Yolo Yellow by Sinful Colors and Mellow Yellow by Sally Hansen.
First one up is Yolo Yellow by Sinful Colors. Spoiler Alert: This is the big winner, it’s a knockout. First win: the color- it’s super bright and yellow, it’s a true bright yellow. Second win: I only needed two coats to complete this manicure, and it actually dried. Third win: Although it’s only a couple of cents of difference, this one is cheaper than the Sally Hansen nail polish.
There were so many problems with this nail polish I don’t know where to start. The nail polish color itself is not a true bright yellow, it’s more like a nacho cheese yellow. I’m not returning the nail polish but I think that this polish will be best used as a nail art color and not a full nail color. This color was so sheer that I needed 3+ coats for this to work, and because of that, the nails did not fully want to dry. It was a disaster.
In short: If you’re looking for a yellow, inexpensive nail polish, get Yolo Yellow by Sinful Colors.
Hey guys! for this week, I decided to try a nail polish I’ve never done before. It’s Break The Ice by Wet n wild. My sister received a mini wet n wild collection a while back and she gave some polishes to me.
Here is the little bottle it came with. It’s so cute. I thought that the brush was not going to be workable but I was wrong. It was more or less the same thickness as other brands, but it was not wide like their normal-sized megalast polishes.
I love this color, but one thing I did not love was the application. The nail polish was streaky, I had to apply 4 (!) coats to achieve opacity. Here is how it looks like with the top coat on.
I would have loved it more if the polish was thicker and more opaque.
I think I’m going to play with some nail stickers for next week’s Mani Monday!
Let’s get back into the swing of this – it’s time for a Mani Monday!!
This week, I decided to recover from that awful manicure and go with a nice coral/orange color – perfect for summer.
This is Hazard by Sinful Colors. I believe that as far as inexpensive nail polishes go, Sinful Colors might be the best.
Although this color was a bit streaky – I had to use 3 coats on some of my nails, my nails were not goopy or sticky, like I felt with Mellow Yellow from Sally Hansen.
I topped the nail polish with my favorite top coat – the wet n wild wildshine Clear Nail Protector
What are you wearing on your nails right now?
Now I don’t say this often, but holy sh!t, this was a horrible nightmare of a manicure. These nails were so horrible that I had to take the polish off a couple hours after I applied it. I don’t know what went wrong…everything did.
*Backstory* – For the longest of times I have been looking for a yellow nail polish. I have never had yellow nail polish and I have always loved the idea of having yellow nails during the summer. They make your nails pop and who doesn’t want to look like they have the sun on their fingertips? I actually contemplated buying this nail polish for about a month, it wasn’t until I saw the polish at a Walgreens that I decided to see this as a sign to get it. This is Mellow Yellow by Sally Hansen.
I wanted to play with the polish as soon as I got home. But first, I went on Instagram to look at some ways others have applied and used the polish. Most of the posts used the polish to give nail art and only a few had a full yellow nail. One person that had a full nail described the process and polish as using nacho cheese to paint their nails. RED FLAG #1!!! Another person said they used over 3 coats to complete their manicure. RED FLAG #2!!! And yet another person complained about the formula, and this is something that I saw while searching for the nail polish, apparently Sally Hansen reformulated the polish. RED FLAG #3!!!
I used the polish anyway. The first coat went on very thin, it was very streaky and uneven. The second coat wasn’t that much better. Then I did something I rarely have to do with a Sally Hansen product, use a third coat. It was awful, my nails looked gooey and nasty, it looked like I dipped my fingers on some nacho cheese. I regretted it so much. The nail polish also took sooo long to dry. The polish also had bubbled all around the nail which added to the nastiness of it. What a fail. I don’t think I’ve ever been so disappointed by a nail polish.
I decided to take off the polish and use “Babe Blue” also by Sally Hansen, this was a step up from Mellow Yellow. On my thumb, I attempted some nail art. This flower looks like it has an egg yolk in the middle, but I still love it.
What’s your favorite nail polish? What’s the worst nail polish you’ve encountered?
Let me know!
