Mani Monday – Fresh Air

Hey, look! I’m actually on time for a Mani Monday. I graduated college this past Saturday so hopefully that will mean that I will post most often and regularly. Because I graduated, I wanted to have some nice nails.

I have a confession to make – I have never been to a nail salon. My main reason is because I just love doing my nails, I find it relaxing. Another is the cost, I can create a decent manicure without paying an outrageous amount of money for it. For my graduation, I was thinking of what my nails were going to be like. Do I get a cute nail polish? Do I go to a salon? What do I do? I decided to meet my thought halfway.

I got the Kiss Nails Gel Fantasy nails in the style Fresh Air. I bought these at CVS and they were a little over $8. They are a nice pink color that matched and complimented my dress.

If you follow my blog, you will notice that I have used press on nails in the past and they haven’t always been the best option. I love these nails, they are short and I feel like I applied the nails better than the last time. Even though I love the nails, there are some issues with them. The glue that it comes with is hard to press out, the tube is hard and when you are applying the nails with the non-dominant hand, it is a struggle. My recommendation would be to either use another type of glue, I saw one that came in a nail polish-type bottle and i feel like that would be better for the application. Also, you could have someone help you.

For a manicure that’s less than $10, these nails are amazing.

Mani Monday – Lessons learned

Welcome back to Mani Monday, I feel like I’ve been gone for a long, long time. Anyway, here’s my manicure for this week – and let me tell you lessons were learned.

Okay, I’ve always had a fascination with fake nails – or just long nails in general. I always think it’s glamorous, totally not me lol.

Since I don’t have the patience to grow my own nails and I wanted something cheaper than a manicure at a salon, I bought some In Press Nails, they are press on nails with adhesives (kinda like super strong double stick tape) attached to them. Keep that in mind, it’ll come up later. I also bought some extra Kiss brand glue to make sure my manicure lasted longer.

Lessons Learned:

  1. I don’t like having long nails, even though I love looking at them. For some reason I always feel like I have dirt underneath them.
  2. DON’T PUT EXTRA GLUE on the nails. I’ve used these manicure nails before and they already have glue on them, just stick on and press, hence the name. I put extra glue on the nails because I wanted them to last longer, but I think I might have done the opposite. The nails and the extra glue made gaps in the nails and let in water, when taking showers. Maybe I needed to get a better fit on the nails or it was the glue, either way, my nails slowly started coming off.
  3. Take your time with the nails, I think that next time ( if there is one) I will get a kit, one that I can cut, with more nails for a better fit, and ones that I can color. I think controlling all of those things would be better for me.

Since I wanted a manicure like this one, but without the whole press on nails, I decided to paint my nails with Sinful Colors. My base color is Easy Going by Sinful colors and the heart was made with a Nutcracker, also by Sinful Colors. For $2, I guess it’s a nice pink/nude/white color but the quality isn’t there. I was lurking on the internet and someone described the texture and color as house paint, and it’s right on. The nail polish is clunky, chalky looking and sometimes streaky, I would only continue using this color if I put some glitter on it, to distract from the quality of the nail color.
